the new home and studios of
Pamela Callahan
& John F. Walté
When we crossed the bridge over Otter Creek in February 2004, Otter
Creek Arts was born. It sounds so simple, yet we are struggling to
write about this place in southwestern Wisconsin because it is so
overwhelming on many levels. We truly feel that "we are in a dream,
awake".

As longtime urban dwellers, we began to notice a shift in the
last few years. The city's energy motivated us less and less, while
time spent in nature felt more and more like home. Thus began our
search and ultimately, that magical walk over the bridge. And yes, the
land is beautiful, but the connection we feel to it, the emotions it
evokes, and the challenges it provides are beyond description.

What we can describe to you is our vision of Otter Creek Arts as inspiration,
retreat and gathering place. First, it will be home to our art studios
(Pamela~oil paint and mixed media works; John~digital paintings).
Second will be the creation of artist retreat cabins for weary
creatives looking for respite. And third will be the transformation of
the beautiful barn into a gallery space / lecture hall for visiting
artists and various art-related events.

The journey is just beginning and we'll be spending some time getting settled this first year, but
stay tuned and dream, awake...

In art and peace,

Pamela & John
